Road surfacing contractors

L&P Building Ltd have been professional road surfacing contractors for many years providing services to local councils.

When it comes to road surfacing, safety is paramount, we also as road surfacing contractors have to adhere to government guidelines, approved surface materials and treatments.

Approved materials and options for road surfacing include:

  • Bitumen Macadam
  • Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)
  • Hot Rolled Asphalt (HRA)
  • Surface Dressing
  • Coloured Wearing Courses

Experience

As Road surfacing contractors we have worked on wide range of road surfacing projects, road surfacing has become a national issue in recent times owing to the damage caused by the flooding early in 2014. We work on both private and public projects. We are currently road surfacing contractors to several local councils.

Installation Options

  • Bitumen Macadam

This method is used on foot-ways, low speed and low stress roads. This method usually requires a full re-laying of the current road surface so that the road surface layer (minimum 20mm and maximum 30mm) can be correctly and safely applied.

  • Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)

Generally used on roads with a speed limit or no more than 40mph. the surface has a high resistance to deformation. The surface is largely stone aggregate based and uses a mastic of bitumen and filler. Road surface must be cooled to less than 40 degrees before it can be used.

  • Hot Rolled Asphalt (HRA)

Comprises of varying coarseness’s of  aggregate secured by a bitumen mastic, sand and filler. HRA’s strength is defined by the properties of the mastic. Additional pre-coated stone chippings are then pressure rolled into the surface for additional grip and stability.

  • Surface Dressing

Typically involved spraying the current road surface with an even coat of emulsified bitumen binder with  a spray tanker and then immediately applying pre-coated chippings (dress) to the new spray layer which is then rolled for stability. This improves the wear resistance of the road, increases the longevity of life, restores and increases skid resistance and maximises the cost effectiveness of the surface as a whole.

This can be applied to all classifications of roads in the UK in accordance to Road Surface Treatment Association guidelines.

  • Coloured Wearing Courses

Along with standard wearing courses, coloured wearing courses are made from a combination of tarmac, natural coloured aggregates, additional colourings and surface coatings.

Production of the material is done off site, meaning the surface is quick and easy to install, even once the surface coating wears off the natural aggregate colouring remains as this is complemented throughout the entire layer of the surface, so the longevity is preserved.
